What are you wearing at our Saturday night disco?

Looking for inspiration? Eighties band Spandau Ballet at the height of their popularity

Don’t forget that Bredon Cricket Club is turning back the clock to revisit those fabulous songs from the Eighties and Nineties on Saturday night (July 23).

We’ll be playing some of the biggest hits of the two decades at our school disco retro night.

But it won’t be just the music from the past you’ll be enjoying… we’ll be selling selected drinks at 90s prices too (though we can’t guarantee to have Hooch, Lambrini, or Skol lager in stock).

Why not really let your hair down and come in fancy dress? The theme is 1980s and 1990s school disco, and there’ll be a prize for the best male and female outfits.

On a warm night in July it’s the perfect place to remember those uh, oh, summer nights!

Tickets cost £5 on the door, and the bar opens at 7.30pm.

Boom! Catching practice takes an unusual turn

Perhaps it was Will’s cheap cider that made things turn a bit surreal (he was selling off his last keg of Thatcher’s for £1.50 a pint).

We were all just enjoying the warm evening sunshine after an over 60s friendly at Hill Close tonight when this fella wandered off to his car and came back with what looked like a bazooka.

“Fancy a bit of catching practice, lads?” he yelled.

And look what happened next…

Champions! Bredon’s Under 9s, who triumphed at Dumbleton’s festival

Bredon lifted the champions trophy at Dumbleton Cricket Club’s Under 9s Festival on Sunday.

They negotiated two reasonably comfortable matches, two tight ones, and one nail-biter which they won by one run!

Other teams involved were Dumbleton, Ashton and Gotherington.

Stuart McMillan stepped in as coach, while Paul Foster, Brad Cooper and Lucy Donovan gamely volunteered to score the games.

All the boys did exceptionally well on what was a very hot afternoon.

Credit goes to Dumbleton for a well organised and enjoyable tournament.

Bitter blow. Bredon Under 12s lost to Alcester and Ragley in the Cotswold Hills League shield final

There was disappointment for Bredon’s plucky Under 12s, who lost out to Alcester and Ragley in the Cotswold Hills League shield final on Sunday.

The boys, who have been playing a year up all season, struggled to cope with their opponents’ superior bowling.

Alcester and Ragley finished winners with a score of 277 for 3 after a match played in brilliant sunshine at Evesham cricket ground.

Alcester and Ragley won the toss and elected to bowl, taking an early wicket with their second ball.

Bredon fought back with several boundaries from Ollie McGrath and some quick running between the wickets by Cole Notley. They ended their total after four overs at 229 for 2.

Alcester and Ragley took four wickets in quick succession, chipping away at Bredon’s total.

Bredon’s William Wilson and Eashan Patel deployed an array of defensive shots to keep the opposition’s accurate bowlers from taking more precious runs away from the total.

The third pair, Reuben Pawley and Luke Plane, fought back hard, putting the pressure back on Alcester and Ragley’s bowlers.

The last pair came to the crease with the score at 235 for 8 needing a successful four overs.

Reuben Ibbotson smashed two early boundaries to boost the Bredon’s total and confidence, but Alcester and Ragley bowled beautifully at the stumps to fight back with two quick wickets.

Dylan Simmonds played some lovely strokes at the other end to keep the scoreboard ticking.

Reuben finished off with a further two big hits, finishing Bredon on 253 for 11.

It was a terrific bowling and fielding display.

Alcester and Ragley took to the crease looking confident and ending their first four overs 220 for no wicket.

Dylan Simmonds struck first for Bredon with a first-ball wicket.

Alcester and Ragley pulled back with great batting and determination, raising the total to 244 for 2.

Reuben Pawley got Bredon’s second wicket.

Alcester took the driving seat, adding runs with ease over the next four overs before Luke Plane hit the stumps to give Bredon a boost.

Alcester took the lead at 269 for 3, with Bredon needing wickets to win.

William Wilson, Cole Notley and Rueben Ibbotson bowled tight, only conceding four runs off the bat.

A big thanks to both teams for a great final that was played at a high standard with great sportsmanship.

Thanks also to Mark Dixon, Jon Bassett and his wife for making the day a success as always, with the use of the great facilities.

At the double! Dad and son get Third XI off to flying start

Dad and son
What a partnership! Johnny McGrath and his son, Ollie, had cause to celebrate at Birlingham

Johnny McGrath and his son, Ollie, playing for Bredon Third XI, had cause to celebrate on Saturday.

Bredon’s first wicket against Bewdley at Birlingham was bowled by Johnny and caught by Ollie.

Although it was a fine start, it was not enough to set the Thirds on their way to a win. They lost by 47 runs.

Is this the prettiest cricket ground in Worcestershire?

If there’s a prettier cricket ground in Worcestershire I haven’t seen it yet.

Under 12s edge it in tight all-Bredon semi-final

The Under 12s came out winners in a tight all-Bredon semi-final

Bredon Under 12s batted first after losing the toss, and enjoyed a great start with Ollie McGrath and Cole Notley hitting 26 off the first four overs with no wicket.

The Under 13s fought back with some tight bowl, taking several quick wickets without giving away too many extras, and putting pressure on the Under 12s, who ended on 262 for 5.

After a quick refreshment (obviously non-alcoholic, apart from Russell) and a team talk it was time for the Under 13s to chase their target.

A great opening over of pace from Isaac Tagg with an early wicket gave the team a confidence boost.

Dylan Simmonds came to the crease with several well-timed cover drives that found the boundary and put the Under 13s back in the driving seat.

Things were getting tense, with the last pair needing 30ish to win.

Reuben Pawley hit two early boundaries, leaving them needing 12 off the last over.

William Wilson was given the task to keep cool and bowl the best six balls of the season.

It went down to the Under 13s needing a six to win off the last delivery.

William kept his cool, bowling a yorker to put the Under 12s into the final.

A great game, right to the last ball, which was a credit to all the boys, who fought so hard. Well done, Bredon boys!

Thanks for all the support from parents, carers and spectators. We would love to see you all on Sunday, July 17 at Evesham when the Under 12s play Alcester in the shield final.
