Tee off with Bredon Cricket Club’s charity golf day

Catch up with friends and enjoy a relaxing day out at our charity golf day.

It is being held at the Tewkesbury Park Hotel on Friday, August 12, and proceeds will be split between our club and the Midlands Air Ambulance.

The day starts with coffee and bacon baps at reception, and ends with prize-giving (and perhaps refreshments).

There will be teams of three, and the competition will be an 18-hole Bowmaker with full handicaps (best single Stableford over the first six holes, best two over the second six, and all three scores count over the last six).

A nearest-to-the-pin prize will add a little extra interest to the day, which is being organised by Gareth Allen.

Cost is £75 a team (£25 a person).

To reserve a place email Gareth, as soon as possible and let him know sharing names, handicaps and team names.

If you wish to reserve a particular tee time (they run between 10am and noon) let him know and he will do his best to sort it out.

Good luck to all taking part!

Your committee: hard at work at England’s best cricket ground

Bredon Cricket Club committee meets outdoors
It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it!

Your committee works really hard to make Bredon Cricket Club even better… honestly, it does!

Balmy temperatures meant tonight’s monthly meeting was held outdoors for the first time anyone can remember.

There were, of course, refreshments at hand and one of Worcestershire’s loveliest views to enjoy.

But despite those distractions some useful work was done tonight.

Exciting improvements to our clubhouse are under way, a packed programme of social events arranged, and more Sunday games booked.

Over the next few days we’ll update you in more detail about what’s happening.

The 2016 season so far: mixed fortunes for our teams

Bredon cricket team pause between oversjunior cricketer in action

With the season now well under way, it’s time for the first in an occasional series of updates about our teams’ progress.

Click on the links in the menu bar on the left to keep up to date with fixtures and results.

First XI

Poor weather disrupted pre-season preparations for all our senior teams, and the First XI were no exception.

They have had a mixed start to the season, chalking up two wins and a draw from five games (one match, against Coombs Wood, was abandoned).

Second XI

The Second XI have had similar fortunes, enjoying two wins from four matches (two games were abandoned).

Third XI

With only two league games played (a third was abandoned), it is still early days for the Third XI, who are chasing their first win.

Under 11s

The under 11s have made a great start to the season and are starting to demonstrate the skills they have worked so hard at in training in match situations.

Fielding, calling and running between the wickets have been particularly impressive.

The team responded well to a defeat in their first game of the season, a friendly against a strong Alcester and Ragley side, and have since recorded large-margin victories in two other league games they played.

Under 12s

The under 12s have had a great start to the season in their first three league matches, with confident wins and great all-round performances by all.

The boys have come on loads in cricket skills and working as a team on the pitch, with lots of encouraging and supporting each other and, most importantly, enjoying the game.

The boys are a great bunch of players growing in ability and confidence, and they surprise me each week.

  • Look out for details soon of an under nines festival we are hosting at Bredon.

It’s half-term, come and watch the kids play cricket!

Our under 11s are in action tonight, and we’re opening the bar for a mid-week social

Please note: Match cancelled due to rain

Bredon Cricket Club’s under 11s have a home game against Bretforton this evening (Tuesday, May 31).

It’s half-term so we are opening up our clubhouse bar for a mid-week social.

We are open from 6pm, so come along and support the kids and enjoy a drink and chat with the other parents.

You are welcome, too, if you would like to see our junior cricket set-up and talk to one of the coaches about your child getting involved at Bredon.

Bredon under 11s lose to Tanworth and Camp Hill by four runs

junior cricket batsman
So close! Tanworth and Camp Hill Maroons beat Bredon under 11s by just four runs

There was a nail-biting final over as Bredon under 11s batted flamboyantly in a last-ditch effort to reel in Tanworth and Camp Hill Maroons.

Only some fine fielding by the Maroons preserved their lead, and the match ended 249-245.

It was, overall, a solid performance by Bredon.

Fine performance: Bredon under 12s played superbly against Exhall and Wexford

Bredon under 12s put on a first class display away against Exhall and Wexford.

Bredon batted first and scored 303 for two wickets.

Exhall and Wexford were 211 for 16 wickets.

It was an excellent batting, bowling and fielding performance by all eight players.

There was lots of encouragement, and all the players helped each other in what was a great team effort.

They are really taking in the training drills on a Friday night, and learning the skills that are being implemented on match days.

A massive pat on the back to the under 12s team. Well done, lads!

You can bet our race night is going to be a blast!

And they’re off! Bredon Cricket Club is re-creating the excitement of race-going on Saturday, July 2. Picture: Worcester News

You are under starter’s orders for another great night out at Bredon Cricket Club.

We are hosting an exciting evening of racing at our Hill Close clubhouse on Saturday, July 2.

You will be able to stake money on the outcome of recorded races played on a large TV screen. The selection is purely dependent on chance. There are no odds or form to complicate your selection.

The evening’s organiser is a firm that specialises in this sort of event. It brings along all the equipment needed, including eight recorded races, betting slips as well as an experienced master of ceremonies.

There is a proper commentary with each race, and numbers appear on screen to show the audience the position of their horse as the race progresses.

Our bar will, of course, be open throughout.

It all makes for an evening that re-creates the thrilling atmosphere of a visit to the racecourse, and will be a valuable boost to the club’s coffers.

Admission is free, non-members are welcome, and the fun gets under way at 7.30pm.
