Bredon Under 15s travelled to Kingsholm, Gloucester, for a league match in which their young stars shone on Monday evening.

Bredon were put into bat, and on a drying wicket Ollie McGrath opened up with a solid start.

He soon got into the flow, taking apart the bowling on a difficult track and giving the boys a great start.

Ollie notched up his 50 in style, playing some very classy shots.

Bredon ended up 132 for 5 after 20 overs.

Bredon then took to the field, with William Wilson opening up with great pace, clean-bowling their opener first ball, and with the following five balls unplayable.

In William’s third over he clean-bowled a further three batsmen.

A further two wickets were taken in his fourth over, with an amazing caught and bowled, William diving full length to dismiss their best bat.

He ended up: four overs, two maidens, 10 runs and six wickets.

Bredon skittled them out for 54. An amazing achievement, and many more to come. Watch this space!

Well done to both: Bredon’s up and coming stars of the future.

The Under 15s are now top of their league and are all playing their part and maturing into solid cricketers.

Well done, lads. Keep it up.

Luke’s a hat-trick hero

Bredon u15s played Gotherington away on Monday evening.

Luke Plane was bowling in the last over of Gotherington’s innings and got a hat-trick. All three dismissals were clean bowled.

He ended up by clean bowling a further batsmen in the same over, so four wickets in five balls.

A great achievement by the talented youngster. Well done, Luke, plenty more to come!

Bredon won the match with a solid batting performance by William Wilson, who steered them over the line, comfortably ending up on 42 not out.

Results for all Bredon teams are here.

Barbecues, live music, tower run, comedy night and Bredon Hill Bash games: it’s a busy two months ahead at Bredon Cricket Club

A few dates for your diary:

Our eight-week All Stars Cricket programme begins on Friday, May 17, at 5.30pm.

Bredon Cricket Club Tower Run is on Sunday, May 26. Register now for this annual event: it’s great fun! Later the same day Bredon will pay another game in the Bredon Hill Bash, the Twenty20 tournament just for the village teams around Bredon Hill. There will be live music and a barbecue. The clubhouse bar will be open throughout the day.

A date for a comedy night originally planned for Saturday, June 1, is being re-arranged.

On Friday, June 14, Bredon Cricket Club will play a game at Hill Close against Gloucester Gipsies Cricket Club. The action starts at 11 o’clock.  There will be a barbecue and entertainment after the match.

Call into the club on Sunday, June 30,  to welcome riders taking part in the St Richard’s Hospice Bikeathon, some of whom will be stopping for refreshments at our clubhouse during their fund-raising journey through the Cotswolds.

Bredon’s first big bash game delayed, but fun day goes ahead as planned

Bredon Cricket Club’s first game in the Bredon Hill Bash, the Twenty20 competition solely for clubs around the hill, has been delayed by a week.

It had been set for next Sunday (April 21), but will now be played on Sunday, April 28.

However, there will still be a game to enjoy next weekend: Bredon will take on the Crown, Kemerton, in a friendly at Hill Close, with play starting at 3pm.

The match coincides with the First of the Summer Wine, the club’s family fun day season curtain-raiser.

As well as a fast-moving game of cricket, visitors will be able to enjoy a barbecue and live music from the Malvern Hillbillies, starting at 2pm. An Easter egg hunt, for younger children, will also begin at 2pm. The clubhouse bar will be open throughout.

Members and non-members alike are welcome, and it will be a chance to renew memberships or join the club for the first time as a player or social member.

Bredon’s delayed big bash opener against Alderton Wanderers will be played at home on Sunday, April 28.

Simon Booth, left, is, for the second year running, first member of Bredon Cricket Club to finish. Delayed
Bredon will play a big bash game in the afternoon following the tower run on Sunday, May 26

There will be a further big bash game at Bredon on Sunday, May 26, the afternoon following the Bredon Cricket Club Tower Run. Sign up for the run here.

Others matches will be played on Sunday, June 30; Sunday, July 28, and Sunday, August 18.

Finals day is scheduled for Sunday, August 18.

Unfortunately, bad weather put a damper on the culmination of last year’s tournament, but the 2017 finals day was a huge success, drawing visitors from around Bredon Hill.

The bash this year is being organised by Arthur Hayward, a long-standing supporter of the club, in the absence of Jake Denton, who devised the competition.

The competition comprises two leagues this year:

League A
Bredon
Alderton Wanderers
Elmley Castle
Fourth team (to be confirmed)

League B
The Crown
Birlingham
Overbury
Ashton-under-Hill

More fixture details coming soon once the final team have confirmed.

The league season at Hill Close opens next weekend (Saturday, April 20), with a tough fixture against Hagley Cricket Club.

Hagley were crowned ECB National Indoor Champions at Lord’s last season. Their First XI finished 7th in the top flight of the Worcestershire League but are competing in Division Two following the league restructure.
