Brave shield final battle from Under 13s

2017 shield final: Bredon Under 13s v Alcester and Ragley
Tough battle: The Under 13s put up a brave battle against Alcester and Ragley in the Cotswold Hills League shield final

Bredon batted first on a green wicket with variable bounce meaning scoring runs was difficult.

But the boys defended well, taking opportunities when they arose.

Alcester and Ragley bowled tightly with pace and bounce, as they have all season.

Bredon battled on, only losing three wickets with a finishing total of 268.

Bredon came out to bowl full of energy with the sort of good spirit they have shown all season.

Some great opening bowling lifted their confidence with a near catch just going over the hands of a fielder.

Alcester fought well, pushing nearer to the total with a strong batting line up.

Bredon took four wickets in two overs with a hat-trick chance that brought them back into the match.

Alcester moved to the 268 target with some big blows from the last pair, but Bredon fought right to the last ball, holding their heads high with a great performance by all players.

They ended up taking six wickets, which was a great positive to take from the match, and defended their wicket in difficult situations.

Alcester had not lost a game all season so were very strong opponents to come up against in this 2017 Cotswold Hills League shield final.

Thanks to all the squad and parents for your support so far and for  the rest of the season. The boys did Bredon Cricket Club, me and themselves very proud.

Bredon 318 for 5
Alcester and Ragley 238 for 9

The Under 13s are through to the 2017 Cotswold Hills League semi-final after a convincing 80-run home win over Alcester and Ragley.

The boys batted first with such confidence, taking the bowling apart and keeping the run rate ticking over with great running between the wickets.

The team scored their highest total for the season.

They came out to field in high spirits, with a great opening attack taking early wickets to put the visitors on the back foot with some great catching skills.

They stuck at it, not losing focus on the job in hand and securing the semi-final position.

Well done to the Under 13s, who played as a confident team with plenty of enjoyment and focus.

A proud morning’s cricket as a coach.

Under 12s bounce back to win by narrow margin

under 11s cricket team
Top team: The Under 12s pictured last season. They’re bigger and better now!

Following defeat in their first game of the season, Bredon Under 12s bounced back with a close victory at Alcester and Ragley Park in a low scoring but very exciting game.

Having been asked to bat first in difficult conditions, Bredon scored 245-6 off their 16 overs.

In reply Alcester and Ragley always appeared to be just ahead, and with their final pair coming to the crease needed six runs to win.

However, Bredon’s bowlers reeled off four tight overs, and, backed up by some top-class fielding, two further wickets were taken and the home side fell three runs short on 242-5.

The boys, who have been playing a year up all season, struggled to cope with their opponents’ superior bowling.

Alcester and Ragley won the toss and elected to bowl, taking an early wicket with their second ball.

Alcester and Ragley took four wickets in quick succession, chipping away at Bredon’s total.

Bredon’s William Wilson and Eashan Patel deployed an array of defensive shots to keep the opposition’s accurate bowlers from taking more precious runs away from the total.

The third pair, Reuben Pawley and Luke Plane, fought back hard, putting the pressure back on Alcester and Ragley’s bowlers.

The last pair came to the crease with the score at 235 for 8 needing a successful four overs.

Reuben Ibbotson smashed two early boundaries to boost the Bredon’s total and confidence, but Alcester and Ragley bowled beautifully at the stumps to fight back with two quick wickets.

Dylan Simmonds played some lovely strokes at the other end to keep the scoreboard ticking.

Reuben finished off with a further two big hits, finishing Bredon on 253 for 11.

It was a terrific bowling and fielding display.

Alcester and Ragley took to the crease looking confident and ending their first four overs 220 for no wicket.

Dylan Simmonds struck first for Bredon with a first-ball wicket.

Alcester and Ragley pulled back with great batting and determination, raising the total to 244 for 2.

Reuben Pawley got Bredon’s second wicket.

Alcester took the driving seat, adding runs with ease over the next four overs before Luke Plane hit the stumps to give Bredon a boost.

Alcester took the lead at 269 for 3, with Bredon needing wickets to win.

William Wilson, Cole Notley and Rueben Ibbotson bowled tight, only conceding four runs off the bat.

A big thanks to both teams for a great final that was played at a high standard with great sportsmanship.

Thanks also to Mark Dixon, Jon Bassett and his wife for making the day a success as always, with the use of the great facilities.
